The ‘Casa Maria’ (named after its first owner, Maria Bozanic, a schoolteacher) is situated on the second floor of a historical, stone building (built in 1810), located in the heart of the old city centre (pedestrian, cobblestone area) of Vrbnik, on the Adriatic island of Krk. The house, including its structure, has been fully renovated in 2014.
The apartment consists of an entrance hall with a closet, a bedroom, an open day-space (hosting a kitchen, a dining area and a living space with a sofa – extendible into a twin bed, TV/radio/internet access), and a bathroom. There is also a spacey roof terrace, which is completely private (secluded from view), ideal for sunbathing and relaxation.
The apartment is furnished with a combination of original historic furniture pieces and contemporary items, in a themed elegant white and beige colour scheme framed by Vrbnik stonework walls and original traditional lace, thus capturing the soul of the island and its life. It is equipped with an air conditioning system, as well as a heating system for the cooler period.
In the immediate vicinity of the house (within 300 metres) you can find two well known restaurants (‘Nada’ and ‘Gospoja’), a pizzeria/spaghetteria, two grocery shops, a bakery, a post office, a tourist office and a souvenir shop. There are regular daily bus connections to the island’s main town of Krk, as well as to the nearby city of Rijeka (which is a 45min drive from the village itself). Fresh fish and grocery can be bought daily in the village. In the summer period (June-September) Vrbnik is connected to the mainland by boat as well.
Unlike the nearby destinations of Punat, Baska, Krk or Malinska, the village of Vrbnik is not a mass tourism destination, but rather a historic site and an eco-eno-gastro centre, best known for its wine (zlahtina) and food (surlice, prosciutto, cheese, olive oil …). Find out more about Vrbnik at:
